Club is formed as the Excelsior Football Club, playing at
Mavisbank.

recorded match ends in a 7-2 win over Greenbank Rutherglen.

Club changes name to Airdrieonians Football Club.
1883
Airdrie go on a successful tour of Ireland playing two matches
against Ulster, winning 4-1 and 7-1.
1885
Airdrie win their first cup, beating Benhar 6-2 in the final
of the Airdrie Charity Cup.
1886
Rangers are shocked when Airdrie cuff them 10-2 at Kinning
Park in Glasgow.
Airdrie
goalkeeper Jimmy Connor becomes first Airdrie player to
be capped for Scotland.He plays against Ireland in Belfast.
1891
Airdrie are involved in the first penalty kick in Scotland.Andrew
Mitchell trips Lambie of Royal Albert and concedes the first
penalty.Mcluggage of Royal Albert beats Airdries legendary
keeper, Jimmy Connor to convert the kick.
1892
Broomfield is opened in a match against Scotland's premier
team of the day, Queens Park.Airdrie take a 2 goal lead,
but lose out 5-3 in the end.
1894
Airdrie are elected to the Second Division.They record a
15-1 victory over Dundee Wanderers, this is still the club's
record win.
1898
Airdrie become a Limited Company.The seven founder members
being, Thomas Sutherland, William Neilson, James Shaw, James
Hutton, David Gibson, Charles Dunsmore and Archibald Ross.This
brings financial stability to the club and enables them
to concentrate on playing success.
1903
Airdrie end the season as Second Division Champions, but
they have a nervous wait to find out if they will be elected
to the top Division.After the leagues AGM, Airdrionians
are elected to the First Division.Airdrie will stay in the
top Division for a further 33 years.
1907
The 'Doocot' Pavillion is opened at Broomfield.
1912
Airdrie wear their famous Diamond striped jerseys for the
first time before 25,000 at Ibrox.

1914
Broomfield is insured against damage from aircraft!
